July 29th thru August 10th,

Troop 21 attended Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico with the
SFC contingent and hiked 65 miles through the Sangre de Christo (Blood of
Christ) Mountains, a part of the Rockies known for their red rock
formations. In order for us "flat-landers" from south Florida to
get acclimated, we spent three days beforehand at altitude in Colorado
Springs, biking Pikes Peak and rafting the Arkansas River through the
Royal Gorge. At Philmont we were never below 7,000ft, and hiked to the top
of 11,711ft Mt. Phillips... all with 40lb+ packs. What a trip!
